Tips for DLMA students answering questions on Education

These tips & comments are in no particular order...

  • With particular respect to essays Nos. 1, 4 and 5, it is important that you make an attempt to understand the whole debate and present your work accordingly - it should not become a personal manifesto and be used as an opportunity to vent your frustrations with certain aspects of Japanese society.
  • Although often referred to in academic works as such, strictly speaking the 6-3-3-4 system of education in Japan is not based on 'the American system' as there is no single American system (education is decided at the state level).
  • Remember the Ministry of Education's name changed in 2001 - you may want to make a note of this in your essay - decide how you will refer to it & then be consistent.
